The iconic AD 03 romp- & all without a distinguishable tune.
Rift (Original Mix)
Several ingredients in this recipe: the first is the iterating ascension, 1-2-3 1-2-3 1-2-3 4-4-4, which is primordial enough. Then after a time-passing half-melody, the chords flow over, throwing us into the chilled climax, all while the most bumping riff flips around, constituting the best part & 80% of Rift. Also, Lange does a couple of entertaining gaps, so while this wins bronze in his songs of 2011, it gets warm memories.
Rift (Andrew Bayer Remix)
Intro mixes are great. My favourites are Still Infatuated by AxisOne, Lighthouse by iB, & Tritonal's EDC Mix of Mat Zo's mix of Lifted. Bayer orchestrified this one, with violins & all. That's half of the ten-minute odyssey. The other half of this recondite purgation is the beat, snapping & hitting in all the right places at all the right times, the apogee of style. As for the tune, that's negligible. Langelaan's was accursed ab initio, so Bayer's Ulurising restyle did nothing but make this the best dance track of the 2010s. His rapid-gyre 80s at the end was a perfect springboard into the tuneless abyss of the outro.
Rift (Kerry Leva Undo)
Leva's acoustic, piano mix is a brief analysis of the OM, which means it's simplified & copied. But Kerry added xer own flairs, such as skipping some notes, darkening some notes, or the whole outro, which is a strangely touching idea to append to Rift. But what else could be done with it?
Rift (Beckwith Remix)
His propofol-inspired laze into sloth is the same 4 bars for hours on end. Great for meditation, but not for alpha waves. His conversion of a deep house song to his own style of deeper house is really his own, without being his. Ah well, not everything can be his debut. Unless you make it so.
